EnerGuide Rating

The EnerGuide rating system has been developed by the Office of Energy Efficiency of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) as a measure of your home’s energy performance. It shows you, and future owners of your home, how energy efficient your home is.

Sustainable Housing Energy Advisors are licensed under NRCan to perform the evaluations necessary to determine the EnerGuide rating of your home. The rating is calculated based on standard operating assumptions so that you can objectively assess the energy performance of one house compared to another.

The EnerGuide rating is on a scale of 0 to 100.

Typical Energy Efficiency Ratings:

Type of House Rating
New house built to building code standards 70-79
New house with some energy efficiency improvements 80-82
Energy efficient new house 83-90
House requiring little or no purchased energy 91-100

Once the EnerGuide assessment on your home is completed, you will receive an official NRCan Label confirming the rating of your home. The label is adhesive and designed to be adhered on or near your power panel. In the event that you decide to sell your home, the label confirms your rating and is proof that your home was tested by a licensed Energy Advisor according to NRCan guidelines.
