ABOUT THE PROGRAM Nova Scotia EnerGuide Houses program provides finical incentives for homeowners to make energy efficient upgrades to their home. In order to qualify for the grants, homeowners must have a home energy evaluation performed before beginning any retrofits.

HOW TO BOOK AN ENERGY EVALUATION Booking an evaluation is easy! You can click HERE to book your evaluation online or you can call us toll free at 1-877-722-2842. Business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. Our helpful staff would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
COST The cost of the energy evaluation is $150 plus tax for houses less than 3500 sq ft., including the basement. An additional $5 per 100 sq ft. applies to larger homes. This cost overs both your initial and follow up evaluations. You may be eligible to be reimbursed for the cost of the EnerGuide for Houses energy evaluation, please see the Low Income section below for more information.
LOW INCOME PROGRAM Nova Scotians who have an annual income of less than $40,000 as a couple or $25,000 as a single person can apply to be reimbursed for the cost of the evaluation. In addition, they will be eligible to receive an additional $400 post-retrofit rebate. Homeowners interested in taking part in this program will be required to pay the evaluation fee at the time of the initial evaluation but will this fee reimbursed after the application is processed.

INTEREST FREE LOAN The province of Nova Scotia is making energy upgrades even more affordable for homeowners by offering interest free loans up to $5,000. For details about the EnerGuide Zero Interest Loan program click HERE or call 1-800-670-4636.

PROVINCIAL REBATES The Nova Scotia government offers rebates up to $1500 on eligible upgrades. These rebates are not dependent upon income and are not taxable. Please see the list of eligible products to ensure your upgrades are eligible for rebates.
SOLAR SYSTEM REBATES Nova Scotia also offers a 15% (up to $20.000) rebate on the installation cost of a solar hot water heating system or solar air heating system installed prior to May 1st, 2010. For systems installed after May 1st, 2010 you will be eligible for a $500 rebate for a solar air heating system and a $1250 rebate for a solar water heating system. These incentives are available for both residential and commercial properties. Please be advised that the solar system rebate requires a separate application form. NOVA SCOTIA POWER INCENTIVE Nova Scotia Power offers rebates for upgrades which improve the electric efficiency of your home such as electronic thermostats, electric thermal storage, and heat pumps. APPLYING FOR REBATES At the time of the follow up evaluation the energy advisor will fill out a grant application form and Nova Scotia Power Incentive application form (if applicable). Sustainable Housing will submit the application(s) on your behalf which will apply you for the available grants.
FEDERAL REBATES If you booked an initial energy evaluation or had an initial energy evaluation completed prior to March 31st, 2010, you will still be eligible for both federal AND provincial incentives.
